The Uganda Support Fund is a charity set up to help poor people in Uganda, including those affected by HIV. Everyone involved in the charity is a volunteer and all money raised is used to improve the quality of life of orphans, destitute families and people living in remote villages. Our first contact with Uganda came in the year 2000 when Clare, then aged 19, went on a GAP year with Africa Venture, teaching in a school in the rural area of Iganga. Clare was there for many months and befriended people in a neighboring orphanage and decided to try and help them with their education and living conditions. Since then she has returned to Uganda many times, encouraging others to visit the country and support the Charity.
USF repesentatives visit the country every year, when possible, taking funds raised directly to those people most in need. The money is used to buy essential items locally as we feel purchasing goods in this way also helps the Ugandan economy. We use our airline baggage allowance to take over to Uganda goods that are difficult to obtain there. All volunteers associated with the charity visit Uganda at their own expense so that all monies raised are used for essential purposes only.
Clare now lives in Kampala and visits Jinga and Mama Jane's regularly to check on the home, take the children swimming and check on their progress. The fund would like to thank: 1) The Sunset Hotel, Jinja who are always supportive of our work and provide a comfortable place for us to stay. They also run Sunset Safari's and will give us 10% commission towards the fund on any safari booked with them that mentions seeing them on this website.Sunset Hotel 2) Rachel Barker of Chichester Primary Tutors who has sent us supplies for Mama Jane's nursery. Please visit her website for primary teaching materials and tutors. Chichester Primary Tutors
